For over ten years, Ironstone Farm has been offering free Equine Encounter retreats to cancer patients, cancer survivors, and their families. Run by professional facilitators, the equine-assisted therapeutic program focuses on discovering the powerful relationship between horses and humans. Exploring this bond helps participants build a renewed sense of self, overcome fears and insecurities, increase confidence, and serve as a reminder of one's own strength. Retreats are free to participants thanks to the generosity of the Boston North Cancer Association. No horse experience is necessary.

EQUINE THERAPY
Equine therapy brings people and horses together, along with a therapist, in an environment designed to promote emotional growth and learning.  Working with horses can also help to rebuild physical strength and mobility, which can be particularly beneficial for those who have had long periods of hospital treatment with lower activity levels. A recent study with breast cancer survivors showed that equine therapy improved the participants’ physical condition, as well as their overall quality of life.
